Do I need a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from my General Practitioner?

You will not need a MHTP from your GP to see our psychologists. The only benefit of having a MHTP is that you will have 10 sessions per calendar year, each of which you will be able to claim a Medicare rebate for. You are also welcome to see a psychologist privately. If you come privately, you can claim a rebate using your private health fund if you have one.

What should I expect from treatment and assessment?

Treatment
If you’ve decided it’s time to begin the journey of working on your mental health, and you feel Soothe Psychology is a good fit, welcome, we are so happy to have you! After giving us a call, you will be offered a 10-minute free intake call with one of our practice directors to discuss presenting concerns and therapeutic goals. The purpose of the intake call is to better understand your needs and place you with the most well-suited psychologist.

Psychological treatment is a highly collaboratively and individualised process. We take a strengths-based approach and attempt to align therapeutic modalities with what each case requires. Whilst we endeavour to work effectively and efficiently with our clients, treatment length is highly dependent on each case presentation and associated therapeutic goals. We first and foremost prioritise the well-being of our clients. As such, we strive to provide our clients with the time and unconditional positive regard they deserve.

Assessment
Are you a parent or guardian wanting to better understand your child’s cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses? Are you a parent or a guardian of a child struggling with attention and hyperactivity? Are you an adult noticing your own challenges with memory, attention and learning? If so, you’re in the right place! After giving us a call and providing a brief overview into the presenting concerns, our reception team will book you in for 50-minute initial appointment with one of our clinical psychologists.

During the initial appointment, your psychologist will aim to obtain a comprehensive overview of all developmental and educational history. Your psychologist will then provide information regarding the battery of assessments and questionnaires required and book you in accordingly. Following formal testing, you will have a 50-minute session in which results will be discussed and you will be provided with a detailed assessment report.
